Bop Cat Bop by Simon Crum

Artist Biography For Simon Crum

The Unpredictable Simon Crum Collects Ten Sides By The Comedy Persona Of Country Star Ferlin Husky Originally Released On Singles Between 1955-1963. Husky Affected A Particular Silly Voice For His Crum Recordings Although The Sideline Also Allowed Him To Exercise His Skill At Celebrity Impressions. He Does A Great Ernest Tubb On The Hit "Country Music Is Here To Stay " And A Funny If Flawed Imitation Of Red Sovine And Webb Pierce On "Little Red Webb." "Don't Be Mad" And "Enormity In Motion" Are Homer & Jethro-Style Parodies Of "Don't Be Cruel" And "Poetry In Motion" Respectively And "Hillbilly Deck Of Cards" Is A Much-Needed Swipe At The Inspirational Recitation "Deck Of Cards." The Reasons For The Success Of "Cuzz Yore So Sweet" A Top Five Hit Are Not Readily Apparent But Husky/Crum's Less Commercially Successful Rockabilly Efforts Stand On Their Own Merits. The Two Examples Of The Latter "Bop Cat Bop" And "Stand Up Sit Down Shut Your Mouth" Are Straightforward Enough To Have Appeared On Rockabilly Compilations. Capitol Once Promised A Capitol Collector's Series Disc Devoted To Husky's Simon Crum Recordings But It Was Never Released.
