With Increasingly Regularity I’ve Been Waking Up With Their Demos In My Pocket. And Now They’ve Sent Us This Rather Fine Little Album.
Compromising Of All Those Demos Properly Recorded With Pat Collier Hundred Reasons Jesus And Mary Chain Maximo Park This Is A Remarkably Sweet 10 Tracks Of Punky Rock N Roll Mayhem. Rolling Effortlessly From Tender Choruses To Green Day-Esque Blasts And Bouncing Along At An Often Breakneck Beat This Is Punk Rock But Made By People Who Have Actually Thought About What They’re Doing First. There Is Also Something Quite Indefinable Going On Here It’s A Very Intelligent And Different Record In An Area Where You’d Think Things Would Be Very Simple And Easily Pinned Down. Singer Charlie Gray With Backing Vocals At Times By Guitarist Marilyn Ford Isn’t Necessarily The Voice You’d Expect For This Record But Somehow Pulls It Off Marvellously Handling Sweet Powerpop Melody As Adeptly As The Shouty Bits. Occasionally It Reminds Me A Bit Of Cay If Anyone Remembers Them But That’s By No Means A Comprehensive Comparison. This Record Bodes Well For Ferocity Lights And I For One Am Certainly Interested In Where This Could Go Next." Bashing Out Dense Skull-Shaking Basslines & Fragile Trebly Guitar Stabs Over A Relentless Pounding Punk-Flavoured Beat They Were Less Out To Charm The Audience & More Clobber Them Into Submission". No. What You Need Is A Few Beers And Some Cheery Punk Rock Down The Pub.
Ferocity Lights At The Gaff On A Tuesday Delivers All This With Great Aplomb. First On And In Front Of A Small Crowd Of Early Bird Gig-Goers They Approach The Whole Thing With A Cheeky Grin And An All-Out Positive Attitude. Sulky Egocentrics Who Spend The Whole Gig Moping On Stage Because Their Girlfriends Only Brought 20 People Should Take Note. ...Playing Pretty Much All The Songs From Their Recent Album It’s Free If You Want A Copy By The Way – Go Ask ‘em Ferocity Lights Pack A Tight And Well-Directed Punch.
