Artist Biography For A Screaming Comes Across The Sky

A Screaming Comes Across The Sky Or ASCATS As A Common Abbreviation Was An American Experimental/Noise Band Formed In 2001 In Simi Valley CA And Is On Hiatus As Of 2010. They Garnered Minor Public Attention While Generating Much Underground Buzz For Their Off-Kilter Sound Comical Yet Incendiary Live Shows And Disregard For Modern Experimental Music's Rigid Standards Of What's Deemed "experimental" Let Alone "music". Bred Heavily From Bands Such As The Fall Can Neu! Einstürzende Neubauten The Boredoms Throbbing Gristle Psychic TV Public Image Ltd. The Swans And The Downfall ASCATS Is As Much A Collage Of Influence As They Are An Influential Part Of The Experimental Scene Themselves. ASCATS Was Born New Years Eve Of 2001 Containing The Members John Storm And "two Very Attractive Ladies". ASCATS Performed Their First Live Show Playing 3 Songs That Were Recorded In Their Two Minute And Fifty-Three Second Set That Night. Later On When John Storm Met Up With Andrzej Skoczylas While At Work That's When ASCATS Took Flight Much Like The Rocket Of Thomas Pinchon's "Gravity's Rainbow" Where The First Sentence In The Book Is Where The Band Takes Their Name. Sharing A Deep Love For Irony And Noise Storm And Andrzej Set Out To Forge A Convergence Of The Two. Their First Album "Take That Hüsker!" Was A Melding Of Destructive Experimental Noise And Scathing Inside Jokes. The Cover Itself Being A Joke Of A Joke Which Was The Liars' Album "There's Always Room On The Broom" In Which The Liars Crossed Out German Experimental Pioneers Einstürzende Neubauten's Self Titled Album's Artwork And Added Their Own To It Cover That They Scratched Out To Become The Cover Of "Take That Hüsker" Which Was A Sticker Used By The California Punk Band "The Minutemen" When They Beat Minnesota's Hüsker Dü To Finishing Their Racing Double LP's. ASCATS Continued To Release Albums As Well As Gain And Lose Members Revolving Around The Duo Of John Storm And Andrzej. The Most Significant Addition Being Hans Zimmer Jr. To Play Bass And Guitar For Live Shows As Well As On Album. Thus Leading ASCATS Into A New Realm Of Actually Having A Musician That Played More Than Just Effects Pedals And Drones. With This New Direction The Band Set Out To Create Two New Albums In Mind But Only Working On One. A Soundtrack To A Horror Film Never Made Titled Simply "Horror". This However Became A Severe Splitting Point For The Group. Andrzej Had Been Growing More Distant To The Group And A Divide Was Forming Between Him John And Hans. John Also Moved Away From Southern California To Seattle For College Which Put More Of A Damper On Finishing Horror. At This Time Hans Met Up With A Then Co-Worker Django Shacklebot Who Became Masterfully Interested In The Band Once Hans Told Him About It. Django Had Been Experimenting With The Possibilities Of Electronic Music Himself In His Solo Project CiRCLE No.5 The Two Of Them Swapped CD's And Fell In Love With Each Others Music. Hans Showed John Django's CD Stating "the First Song Is Punk Rock And The Rest Sounds Like Psychic TV". When John Storm Came Back From Washington Andrzej And Hans Reformed To Try And Finish Horror But To Little Avail. Andrzej Was Becoming Even More Difficult To Get A Hold Of And Soon Disappeared From The Group All Together. It Was Then That Storm And Zimmer Invited Django To Join Ranks With ASCATS. It Was Then That The Current A Screaming Comes Across The Sky Came Together And Begun Showing Themselves To Be Truly As Much Of A Live Band As Well As A Studio Band. While Playing At The Love Earth Music Records Hosted "Noisepollination" In Los Angeles CA In 2007 Is When Longtime Friend And Admirer Steve Davis Of DOG Approached ASCATS About Signing Them To LEM Records. With The Band On A Label And Needing To Release Material John Set Forth An Album Idea He Had From Up In Washington Void Terror. While A Departure From Their More Noisy Abrasive Works Void Terror Is More A Quiet And Acoustic/organically Sounding Album. Still Filled With Drones And Loops Of Distorted Proportions It's Far More Sonorous By Comparison. Its More Accessible Sound Has Gathered Radio Play For The Singles "Gotterdamerung" And "A Rose For Lillian" On Indie And Internet Radio Stations. ASCATS Remained Busy For 2008 Releasing A Single And An EP On Their Own Grandma's House Records Both "Zaney And Frooey" And "Calling Dr. Schwitters" Respectively. Both Releases A Call Back To Their Noise Based Roots And Lighter In Tone Than The Gravity Given To Void Terror. 2008 Also Marked The Joining Of Sirhan Wilkes Oswald To Play Additional Live Instruments Particularly Acoustic Guitar For A More Apocalyptic Folk Quality To The Coming Sound Of ASCATS. Most Recently ASCATS Has Finally Completed The Long Awaited Album "Horror" Under The Name Of "Angriff Der Morderpizzas" And Has Been Heralded As "Experimental Krautrock Meets Doom Laden Folk Music..." And Is Looking To Get Back Into The Live Scene That Has Been Their Hallmark Since The Beginning.
