Deep Purple Are An English Rock Band Formed In London In 1968. They Are Considered To Be Among The Pioneers Of Heavy Metal And Modern Hard Rock But Their Musical Approach Has Changed Over The Years.Originally Formed As A Psychedelic Rock And Progressive Rock Band They Shifted To A Heavier Sound With Their 1970 Album Deep Purple In Rock. Deep Purple Together With Led Zeppelin And Black Sabbath Have Been Referred To As The "unholy Trinity" Of British Hard Rock And Heavy Metal In The Early To Mid-Seventies. They Were Listed In The 1975 Guinness Book Of World Records As "the Globe's Loudest Band" For A 1972 Concert At London's Rainbow Theatre And Have Sold Over 100 Million Albums Worldwide. Deep Purple Have Had Several Line-Up Changes And Were Broken Up For Eight Years From 1976 To 1984 With Drummer Ian Paice Being The Band's Only Constant Member. The First Four Line-Ups Which Constituted The Band's Original 1968–1976 Run Are Officially Indicated As Mark I 1968–1969 Mark II 1969–1973 Mark III 1973–1975 And Mark IV 1975–1976 . Mark I Comprised The Founding Members Of Deep Purple Ritchie Blackmore Guitar Rod Evans Vocals Jon Lord Keyboards Paice Drums And Nick Simper Bass While Mark II Was The Most Commercially Successful Line-Up With Ian Gillan And Roger Glover Replacing Evans And Simper Respectively. Mark III Saw David Coverdale And Glenn Hughes Replace Gillan And Glover Respectively While Mark IV Featured Tommy Bolin Replacing Blackmore. The Band Split In July 1976 And Bolin Died From A Drug Overdose Five Months Later. In 1984 Deep Purple Reformed With The Mark II Line-Up Which Remained In Place Until Joe Lynn Turner Replaced Gillan In 1989. Gillan Rejoined In 1992 With Blackmore Leaving For The Second And Final Time The Following Year. He Was Replaced Temporarily By Joe Satriani And Then Permanently By Steve Morse. In 2002 Don Airey Replaced Jon Lord Which Saw Deep Purple Settle Into Its Longest Running Line-Up Unchanged For The Next Twenty Years Until Morse Announced His Departure From The Band In 2022. His Place Was Taken By Simon McBride. Paice Glover Gillan Airey And McBride Comprise The Current Line-Up Of Deep Purple. Deep Purple Were Ranked Number 22 On VH1's Greatest Artists Of Hard Rock Programme And A Poll On Radio Station Planet Rock Ranked Them 5th Among The "most Influential Bands Ever". The Band Received The Legend Award At The 2008 World Music Awards. Space Truckin' Is A Song By British Hard Rock Band Deep Purple. It Is The Seventh Track On The Machine Head Album. Its Lyrics Talk Of Space Travel And It Showcases The Vocal Abilities Of Singer Ian Gillan And Powerful Drumming Of Ian Paice. The Song's Legendary Chorus Riff Although Different Slightly Resembles That Of The Song "Red The Sign Post" Released In 1968 By The Band Fifty Foot Hose On Their Album Cauldron. The Intro Was Featured On The TV Show WKRP In Cincinnati On The Episode "The Airplane Show" Later Issues Of The Episode Replaced This Track With Generic Music . When It Was First Performed Live The Band Appended An Instrumental That Was Originally Part Of The Song "Mandrake Root" On Their First Album But Gradually Evolved Into A Showcase For Jon Lord's Hammond Organ And Ritchie Blackmore's Guitar Solos. This Usually Took The Length Of The Overall Song To Over Twenty Minutes And Was Always Performed As The Last Number Of The Main Set. A Good Example Of This Arrangement Can Be Found On The Made In Japan Album Wherein Blackmore Also Quotes "Fools" Of Fireball "cello" Solo. Jon Lord Played His Solo Through A Ring Modulator Or Played Some Of It On An ARP Synthesizer. Meanwhile Ritchie Blackmore Usually Split The Guitar Solo Into Two Halves A Quiet Section With Just Drums Then A Loud Section With The Full Band. The Second Half Was Often When Ritchie Would Smash His Guitar Play It With His Feet Or Throw It Into The Air. One Of The Most Infamous Incidents Where This Happened Was At The California Jam Festival In 1974 Where He Dropped One Guitar Over The Edge Of The Stage Smashed A Second Against A TV Camera Then Set His Amplifier On Fire Which Subsequently Exploded. When Deep Purple Reformed In 1984 This Extended Arrangement Was Reworked And Later Included Snippets Of Other Songs. During The Rapture Of The Deep Tour The Final Part Of The Song Which Originally Featured Much High Pitched Screaming By Gillan Now 63 - Featured High Pitched Guitar In The Same Key As His Original Vocals.

Space Truckin' is a song by British hard rock band Deep Purple. It is the seventh track on the Machine Head album. Its lyrics talk of space travel and it showcases the vocal abilities of singer Ian Gillan and powerful drumming of Ian Paice.
The song's legendary chorus riff, although different, slightly resembles that of the song "Red the Sign Post", released in 1968 by the band Fifty Foot Hose on their album Cauldron.
The intro was featured on the TV show WKRP in Cincinnati on the episode "The Airplane Show" (later issues of the episode replaced this track with generic music).
When it was first performed live, the band appended an instrumental that was originally part of the song "Mandrake Root" on their first album but gradually evolved into a showcase for Jon Lord's Hammond organ and Ritchie Blackmore's guitar solos. This usually took the length of the overall song to over twenty minutes, and was always performed as the last number of the main set. A good example of this arrangement can be found on the Made in Japan album, wherein Blackmore also quotes "Fools" of Fireball "cello" solo.
Jon Lord played his solo through a ring modulator or played some of it on an ARP synthesizer. Meanwhile, Ritchie Blackmore usually split the guitar solo into two halves, a quiet section with just drums, then a loud section with the full band. The second half was often when Ritchie would smash his guitar, play it with his feet or throw it into the air. One of the most infamous incidents where this happened was at the California Jam festival in 1974, where he dropped one guitar over the edge of the stage, smashed a second against a TV camera, then set his amplifier on fire which subsequently exploded.
When Deep Purple reformed in 1984, this extended arrangement was reworked, and later included snippets of other songs.
During the Rapture of the Deep Tour, the final part of the song, which originally featured much high pitched screaming by Gillan (now 63) - featured high pitched guitar in the same key as his original vocals. The Album Is Often Cited As Being Very Influential In The Development Of The Heavy Metal Music Genre. It Is Deep Purple's Most Successful Recording Topping The Charts In Several Countries Following Its Release. In 2001 Q Magazine Named It As One Of The 50 Heaviest Albums Of All Time. Machine Head Is The Subject Of One Of The Classic Albums Series Of Documentaries About The Making Of Famous Albums. Machine Head Was Released On The Multichannel Formats Super Audio CD 2003 And DVD-Audio 2001 . The Conditions In Which The Original Recordings Were Made Are Quite Outstanding. Hiring The Rolling Stones Mobile One Equipment And Studios The Band Recorded The Entirety Of The Tracks In A Montreaux Hotel Facility With No Overdubs. The "Smoke On The Water" Lyrics' Citation "Frank Zappa And The Mothers" Refers To Zappa's Show At A Nearby Casino. The Casino Burned Down A Few Days Before The Start Of Scheduled Machine Head Recording Sessions. A Song Entitled "When A Blind Man Cries" Was Recorded During These Sessions But Not Included On The Album. Instead It Was Used As A The B-Side On The "Never Before" Single. The Song Appears As A Bonus Track On The Album's 25th Anniversary Edition. The Supporting Tour For Machine Head Included A Trip To Japan That Would Later Become The Classic Double-Live Made In Japan Album.
