Nuala Kennedy Grew Up In Dundalk Ireland Where She Was A Member Of The Ceilidh Band Ceoltoiri Oga Oghrialla. In 1995 She Moved To Scotland And She Now Lives Near Kincraig In The Highlands. She Is Best Known For Her Work With Trio Fine Friday With Whom She Has Toured Extensively And Recorded Two Critically Acclaimed CDs "Gone Dancing" 2002 And "Mowing The Machair" 2004 . An Accomplished And Versatile Musician With A Wide Repertoire Of Scottish Traditional And Contemporary Music She Is Much In Demand As A Session Musician And Plays Occasionally With The Celtic Big Band "The Unusual Suspects". Nuala Has Tutored Flute At The Boxwood Flute School In Canada And On The Traditional Music Degree In Newcastle University. She Has Worked For Channel 4 ‘ideas Factory’ Teaches Regularly For Feisean Nan Gaidheal And Assists Teachers Using ABC An Innovative New Creative Music Program For Primary Schools. In 2005 Nuala Was Awarded A Scholarship To Complete An Immersion Course In Scottish Gaelic And Returned For A Fourth Year As A Soloist To The Celtic Colours International Festival In October 2006. She Has Developed Strong Links With Cape Breton And The Music And People There. She Was The Recipient Of The 2006 Thyne Scholarship To Investigate Living Composers In Cape Breton. Nuala Collaborated With Contemporary Flutist Jane Rigler In New York In January 2006 And Some Of Their Music Appears On Her Latest Album ‘The New Shoes’. In April She Toured The UK And Ireland Alongside Bonny Prince Billy Aka Indie Poet Will Oldham With Harem Scarem A Band She Co-Founded In 2001. She Features On Both "Let Them Eat Fishcake" 2002 And "The Birnam Witch Project" 2005 ‘The New Shoes’ To Be Released On Compass Records In April 2007 Is Her Latest Traditional Album And The Band Features The Virtuosic Talents Of Marc Clement Guitar/vocals Julian Sutton Melodeons And Claire Mann Fiddle/flute/whistle/vocals Its Rich And Luscious Sounds Bear Testimony To Creative Imagination And Depth Of Experience Harnessed In This Ensemble. Nuala Received Rave Reviews In Scotland’s National Papers For Her Recent Commission ‘Astar Journey’ Composed For Celtic Connections International Festival In Glasgow. She Combined An Ambitious Program Of Music With A Nine-Piece Stellar Line-Up Of International Musicians Including Oliver Schroer Daniel Lapp Will Oldham And Eilidh Mackenzie. Nuala Is Currently Pursuing Her Interest In Composition Further Was A Part Of The 2007 Distil Creative Music Course. She Will Be A Musician-In-Residence At Omi International Arts Center In New York Where She Will Collaborate With Fifteen Other Musicians From Around The World To Produce Work Which Will Be Premiered In August 2007.
