Biografie van de kunstenaar Sick Joy

Sick Joy Are A Post Grunge/alternative Rock Band That Brand Themselves As 'heavy Pop' Or 'noise Pop'. The Name Sick Joy Is Originally From A 90s Movie Which Mykl Took And Made His Own Meaning For - 'when You Really Love Something But It Kills You As Well.' Originally From Newcastle After The Disintegration Of Their Former Band Mykl Barton Vocals/guitar/song Writing And Danny Pitson Bass Built A Bed Into The Back Of Their Van And Moved To Brighton To Form Sick Joy In 2016. Initially Complete With Drummer Drew Michael Who Would Later Leave To Drum For Sam Fender They Wouldn't Complete The Current Line Up - With Drummer Sam Rattray - Until 2019. Oft Described As Reminiscent Of Nirvana Or Pixies Mykl Describes Their Sound As 'kind Of Like Pixies And Nine Inch Nails And Slipknot And Maybe Massive Attack All Had Dinner Together.' The First Single Stars Was Released In 2017. Stars Is A Song Mykl Describes As 'written Right At The End Of The Old Band' At A Time When He Realised His Writing Was Changing. In 2017 They Also Released Another Single Titled 'Cat In A Bird Cage.' Finally In 2017 They Released The Single Smiling Shame. Described As 'more Upbeat' Than Stars With A Change In The Middle Of It This Marked As Mykl Describes 'the Real Introduction Of The Band.' In The Next Year They Released The Second Single For The Then Upcoming EP A Song Called Senses.
A Month After That Release The Debut EP Amateurs Came Out. Amateurs Literally Means To Do Something Because You Love It Rather Than Professionally/for Money And This Is A Fitting First EP As This Ethos Describes The Band Well. The EP Also Includes Karma And Ketamine And Stumbler As Well As The Two Singles.
Lastly In 2018 They Released Standalone Single Dissolve Me. Sick Joy Began 2019 By Releasing Another Standalone Single - Heaven. The Middle Of That Year Also Saw The Release Of The Single Shoot Your Lover Which Would Later Join An EP - Them Days - In September. Shoot Your Lover Is About How “sometimes The Things You Think You Love Aren’t Very Good For You At All They Can Be The Things That Are Killing You.” The EP Was Completed With Songs Playing Dead Dirty Water And Vibe Sucker. This EP Is One That Mykl Describes As Intending To Be 'a Piece' Rather Than Simply A Collection Of Songs. All The Songs For This Album Were Initially Played Acoustically. The Song Vibe Sucker In Particular Has An Interesting Origin Initially Starting As A Rock Song In A Similar Vein To Smiling Shame But Working With Producer Ben Hampson Allowed The Band To Think About It From A Different Angle And Using Nine Inch Nails As An Inspiration Point Mykl Describes It As 'a Stream Of Consciousness With Melodies.' This Is A Stand Out Song In The Early Sick Joy Catalogue As It Sounds Very Different - Or As Mykl Puts It 'comes From A Different Place' - To The Rest Of Their Music At That Point. The Last Release Of 2019 Was Another Standalone Single History. History Is A Nonconventional Single In That It's Rather Slow But This Was A Song Like Every Release Says Mykl That Was A Culmination Of The Past Months For The Band/Mykl As People And As A Band In Terms Of Influences As Well As Personal Experiences. The Song Didn't Exist During The Writing/creation Of Them Days And Was The First To Feature Drummer Sam Who Had Only Been In The Band A Month Or So At The Time. In 2021 The Band Worked On A Collaborative Single For AA Sessions With Ergo Schmidt Entitled Kitchenette Cigarette. In June 2021 The Band Announced They Were Working On The Debut Album. In February 2022 Sick Joy Announced The First Single Of Their Debut Album Belly Aching Beast A Song Which Featured Ex-Reuben And Solo Artist Jamie Lenman.
The Following Month The Band Released The New Album's Second Single I've Got More Than I Need And I Don't Have Much . Along With This Single The Band Announced The Title Of The Album - WE'RE ALL GONNA FUCKING DIE - As Well As The Cover Art. In April The Band Released The Penultimate Single Talking To The Drugs.
The Last Single - Don't Feel Like Dying - Was Released In June And The Full Album Was Released A Month Later. The Non Single Tracks Were As Follows - Stay Numb Deep Dream Alive On The Inside The Blood & The Bliss Rich Hippies Sadisfaction Nothing Better And Ultimately. The Album Title Is As Mykl Says 'supposed To Be A Positive Thing' It's 'positive Nihilism' As In 'we're All Going To Die So Get Out There And Do It.' Mykl Describes The Title As A Mantra That He Finds Helpful. Whilst Interviewed For Reading And Leeds That Year The Band 'announced' Going In And Recording A New Single. This New Single Painkiller Was Officially Announced In December. In January 2023 Painkiller Was Released As A Standalone Single. In April 2023 Sick Joy Announced They Had Recorded A Song For The Japanese Show Alice In Borderland's Second Season And After Many Messages And Comments They Decided To Release It Officially. That Song Was Single 'Turn Me Up.' On August 2023 Sick Joy Announced They Were Releasing Another Standalone Single - Hypodermic Sunshine - At The End Of The Month. Mykl Describes The Song As A 'thank You To The People The Things That Pull You Out Of The Darkest Corners Or The Lowest Spots.' For The Majority Of 2023 Sick Joy Played As A Two Piece - Guitar And Drums - Due To Danny Pitson's Exit From The Band.
