Formed Across The Musical Landscapes Of Bristol And Sheffield Emma's Music Has Been Categorised As Indie. It Is A Mix Of Electronic And Real Instruments Although It Might Be Hard To Tell Which Is Which. "I Tend To Write At Night Time So The Night Has Probably Crept In There Somewhere" Says The Artist. Emma's Foray Into Songwriting Began Age 11 When Her Mum Bought Her An Electric Organ And Semi-Acoustic Guitar. The First Bands To Make A Lasting Impact On Her Included Joy Division PIL The Banshees And The Cure. Her First Real Live Experience Came Playing Bass In A Project While At Art College In Bristol. The Group Which Drew On Industrial And Triphop Influences Later Became Statik Sound System. It Was While In Bristol That She Encountered The Triphop Offerings Of Portishead Massive Attack And Tricky. After Moving Up To London To Do A French Degree Emma Gigged Around Clubs With A Band Called Safe Doing Electronica. It Was During This Time That She Started To Explore The French Music Scene And The Lyric Based 'chansons' Of Jacques Brel Gainsbourg And Jane Birkin. Returning To Her Indie Roots She Started To Develop Her Songs In An Outfit Called Hex. Emma Went On To Do A PhD In French Literature And Got A Job Lecturing At Sheffield University. At Present Emma Is Recording An Album On Her Laptop. Although She Strives To Create An Individual Voice In Her Song-Writing Emma Draws Inspiration From The Works Of Thom Yorke And Radiohead And Female Heros Like Kate Bush Beth Gibbons P J Harvey And Bjork.
