Artist Biography For Memory Systems

When Brian Jackson Left The Indie Underground Band I Am Spoonbender In Spring 2000 He Yearned For A More Meaningful Concrete Project. Luckily He Met Singer And Visual Artist Phoenix Perry. Both Were Attending An Art Exhibition For Electronic Pioneer Morton Subotnick At The Pond Gallery In San Francisco So Immediately A Peerless Pair Was In The Making. In February 2001 Jackson And Perry Mixed Their Ideas Of "post-Futurism" And Formed The Obscure Techno/electro-Wave Act Memory Systems. Their Six-Song Debut Making Your Mind A Better Place To Be Was Self-Released On Memory Systems' Own Label Form Records Later That Summer. All Music Guide Review By Rob Theakston A Note To Electroclash Fanatics Who Missed The Memo The First Time Throw Away Everything But Your Ersatz Audio Ghostly And Gigolo Records And Start Over. Start Here With Memory Systems. Paying Homage To The Darkest Moments Of No Wave Synth Pop And Electro Without Being Cheeky Glammed Up Or Just Plain Snarky About It The Dynamic Duo Of Phoenix Perry And Brian Jackson Aren't Guilty Of Any Of These Charges. Rather They Build Something That Is Unique And Refreshing In An Era Of Constant Homage During The Album's Almost Too-Short 33-Minute Tour De Force. Taking More From Wax Trax! Than The First Synth Pop Invasions Memory Systems Unapologetically Reaches For Its Influences Without Being Derivative Something That Is Unfortunately Few And Far Between In Modern Electronic/synth Pop. With Compositions Intricately Layered During Some Parts And Others As Dense And Stark As Your Favorite Public Image Moment Ad Placement Is A Record That Offers Repeat Listens Without Seeming Redundant Or Stale. A Beautiful Debut By A Group Whose Second Release Is Awaited With Bated Breath.
