With Rootsy Songs That Sound Like The Eagles The Stones And The Band Delivered By Veteran Musicians Who Are Obviously Enjoying Themselves The Ottawa Band Knows How To Get A Crowd Dancing Laughing And Having A Good Time. It's True They're A Fun Band To See But What Sets Them Apart From Most Bar Bands Is The Songwriting Ability Of Singer-Guitarist Dave Reid. By Day The Curly-Haired Single Dad Is A Plumber. After His Shift Ends He Likes To Pick Up A Guitar And Work On Music. "Ever Since I Was A Little Kid I Always Had Music Going In My Head " Says The 49-Year-Old Musician. "The First Time I Picked Up A Guitar I Wrote A Song." Reid Played In Bands In His Younger Days But Any Quest For Rock Stardom Was Put On Hold When His Son Was Born. A Couple Of Decades Later The Son Has Grown Up And A Dream Has Been Achieved With The Release Of Three Times Lucky's First Album Mojo Offa Muddy. It Contains 11 Songs All Written By Reid Ranging From The Blues-Rock Groove Of Cliché Blues To The Tender Acoustic Number About The Wind. The Band Was Formed About A Year Ago When Reid And Some Old Friends Resumed Jamming In One Of Their Basements. "Most Of Us Have Known Each Other Since We Were Kids " Reid Says. "We've Always Played Music. But Life Happens Children Are Born. I Never Quit Music But When We Got Together Again It Felt Right." Adds Drummer Larry Deszcz "Instead Of Going Out And Playing Golf We Got Together To Play Music." The Band Also Includes Reid's Older Brother Zteve On Bass Jeff Holgate On Keyboards And Harmonica Neil Sealy On Upright Bass And Keyboardist Extraordinaire Allan Wilmore Who Plays In Other Bands As Well. They Made The Transition From Basement To Bar Based On Positive Feedback From Family And Friends Who Heard Them Play. Still It Took Some Persuasion For Reid To Muster Up The Confidence To Let Others Hear His Songs. "When He First Started Dave Would Give Us A Song And We'd Go 'Who Wrote That?' " Says Deszcz. "It Was Him And He Had More. 'Don't Be Shy Do It ' We Told Him." 'L-Dawg' Deszcz Says It Got To The Point They Wanted To Document The Songs In The Studio. Influences Three Times Lucky Play Mostly Original Blues-Based Music Along With A Healthy Dose Of Traditional And Newer Blues/roots Music Including Some Classics By Sonny Boy Williamson II Rice Miller Muddy Waters Hudson Whittaker Tampa Red Jimmy Reed And Delbert McClinton Although They Are Not Averse To Slipping Into A Chuck Berry Rocker A Stones Tune A Steve Earle Ballad Or Even Adding A Bit Of A Backbeat To A Hank William's Classic Like 'Mind Your Own Business'.
