Artist Biography For Many Machines On Nine

The Foundations For Many Machines On Nine MM9 Were Laid In 2001 Stemming From Drummer Ben Ellingworth His Desire To Share His Musical Vision With Other Like-Minded Players. Frustrated By Years Of Unfulfilling Session Work And Earlier Abortive Attempts At Joining Other Bands He Became Convinced That The Only Way To Achieve This Vision Was To Kick Things Off Himself. To That End He Began To Piece Together The Framework For A Few Songs And One By One Ben Found The Right Players To Create The Sound He Was Chasing. The First Came In An Unlikely Encounter At 3am On A Deserted Train Platform At Sydney’s Central Station When Ben Spotted Singer/Songwriter/Producer Daniel Sutherland And Started Up A Conversation Within A Week He Was Laying Down Vocals And Ben’s Skeletal Ideas Were Being Fleshed Out. Enter Bass Player Luke Ford Former Member Of High-Profile Australian Metal Band Mortality Who Came Into The Picture While Shopping For A New Bass In Ben’s Music Store. Already A Veteran Of The Australian Music Scene Luke Had Reached A Crossroads In His Career. Since The Demise Of Mortality He Had Found Himself With A Constant Flow Of Offers To Play With A Wide Variety Of Bands Though Like Ben None Had Left Him Satisfied And Frustration Was Beginning To Kick In. While He Was Considering Throwing In The Towel After Meeting Up With Ben He Decided Quitting Was Not An Option. The Search For A Guitarist Proved To Be Tricky Until A Friend Of Luke’s Suggested The Guys Contact A Former Band Mate Of Hers Kerry Foulke. While Perhaps Not The Most Obvious Choice He Was Desperate To Play In A Band Whose Idea Of Professionalism Extended Beyond The Ability To Play A Show After A Four-Day Drinking Binge. Kerry Turned Out To Be The Final Piece Of The Puzzle. With All Of The Pieces In Place And Itching To Play MM9 Instead Chose To Lock Themselves Away For Over 12 Months To Continue Writing Material And Perfecting Their Live Show. The Resulting Sound Was A Unique Blend Of Heavy Guitar-Based Electronic Music Balanced With A Solid Core Of Melody Restraint And Emotional Honesty Which Lends It A Surprising Degree Of Accessibility. By The Time MM9 Finally Unleashed This Sound On The Public Stage An Unusual Amount Of Interest Had Already Been Generated And Their Official Launch In October 2002 Attracted A Sizable Crowd Of Curious Punters. That Auspicious Debut Moved The Band Into Headline Status At High-Profile Venues All Over Town Overnight. The Accessibility Of MM9’s Music Has Attracted It A Continually Growing Fan Base That Defies Current Musical Trends In Today’s Australian Music Scene In Which Stripped Back Rock And Roll Is The Order Of The Day For Most Critics. October 2003 Saw The Release Of The MM9 First Recording. Their Debut A Self-Titled Seven-Track EP Available Through Shock Records Was Enthusiastically Received By Fans And Critics Alike And Demonstrates A Scope And Maturity In Songwriting. The MM9 Songwriting Style Is A Constantly Evolving One In Which Synthetic And Organic Instrumentation Share An Equally Important Status And Their Manipulation Of Unorthodox Techniques Allow For An Original Approach With The Inspiration For Entire Tracks Often Growing Out Of A Single Sound. This Approach Has Been Just As Intentional As It Has Been Experimental. That Intention Is To Create A Live And Recorded Experience In Which The Listener Is Exposed To The Emotive Power Of A Full Spectrum Of Sounds From Mesmerizing Electronic Beats To Big Stomping Riffs To Beautiful Melody. 2006 Saw The Band Release Their Second EP Prosthetic Blvd. Showing Further Refinement To Their Sound. The Band Is Currently Working On Their Debut Album Along With A Remix Album Featuring Songs From The First Two EPs.
