Artist Biography For Leningrad Sandwich

Leningrad Sandwich Started Around 1980 As A Punk Band Of British Ex-Pats In Germany Releasing The 'Go East' LP On Up Records. A Quick Lineup Change Added Annie Lloyd On Vocals In Time For The 'Heat' LP In 1982 On Good Noise Records. The Music Showed A Departure From The Band's Original Punk Sound In Favor Of A Darker New Wave Style That Would Follow Through The Subsequent Releases 'Steps' 1983 And 'Priests And Petrol' 1985 Both Also On Good Noise. Annie Lloyd And Drummer Charles Lees Continued Under The Moniker Leningrad Releasing A 12" On Animalized In 1986 Titled 'Ghosts In The House'. Piers Headley Who Had Contributed Guest Keyboards On 'Steps' And 'Priests And Petrol' Was Also A Part Of This Lineup As Bassist. Dimitri Hegemann The Original Bassist Continued On As A Producer And Founded The Electronic Record Label Tresor Which Published Some Of Piers Headley's Later Material As An Electronic Artist. Both Hegemann And Headley Also Co-Owned The Markthalle A Bar/restaurant/hostel In Mitte Berlin. Charles Lees And Post-Sandwich Guitarist Bernie Kunz Played Together As Friday People. Annie Lloyd Later Joined Sinphonic In The Early '90s And Also Lent Guest Vocals On A Number Of Other Projects. Annie Lloyd - Vocal
