Artist Biography For Chieko Mori

Chieko Mori 森稚重子 Is A Japanese Koto Player. By The Age Of Three Mori Started To Learn The Traditional Japanese Instrument The Koto Along With Traditional Japanese Dance. After Graduating From University In Tokyo SFC Mori Started To Compose Her Own Music. She Left Japan In 1999 And Moved To Treviso Italy Where She Was Invited To FABRICA. For Years She Explored Musical Traditions Including Eastern And Western Music Along With Folk And Acoustic Music. Mori Though Having Fully Mastered The Techniques Of Classical Playing Handed Down Over Centuries Adopts A Fresh Approach Towards The Instrument Suggesting New Possibilities For Improvisation And Imagination. She Collaborated On Koto With Michael Galasso Violinist & Composer Phil Minton And Robert Wilson's Theatre Production. In 2005 Her First Solo Album Jumping Rabbit Was Released By Tzadik Records New York . In Spring 2008 She Composed Music For Swedish Choreographer Virpi Pahkinen's World Premier At Dansens Hus In Stockholm. * Official Site
