Frogtoon Music - Song Info: Kol Nidre
Kol Nidre I Is A Declaration Recited In The Synagogue Before The Evening Service On Yom Kippur The Day Of Atonement. Written In Aramaic Not Hebrew It Takes Its Name From The Two Opening Words Meaning “all Vows”. As Yom Kippur Is The Holiest Day Of The Year For Religious Jews And Is The Most Observed Holiday Also By Many Secular Jews Who Attend Synagogue At Least On This One Occasion In A Year It Is No Wonder That The Words Kol Nidre Are So Well Known World-Wide. They Are Sung By The Cantor And Whilst The Melody Of The Entire Declaration Can Vary From One Cantor To Another The Opening Words And Melody Are Always The Same Two Adjacent Notes With The Opening One Falling A Semitone On The Last Syllable. My Composition For Violin And Organ In Fact Cites Just Those Two Notes And Has No Further Actual Connection With Kol Nidre. I Wrote The Piece In Memoriam Of My Dear Father Frantisek Goldscheider A Holocaust Survivor Of Auschwitz Schwarzheide Terezin And Two Death Marches Who Lived Until 1991 – Unlike 23 Of 25 Sic Goldscheiders In Their Hometown Pilsen In Bohemia Who All Perished In Various Concentration Camps And To Whom This Is Also A Very Humble Memory. My Son Christopher Plays The Violin And Viola To My Accompaniment On Various Keyboards. May I Also Remark Here That Chris And I Recorded Further Three Of My Related Compositions To This Topic All Of Which Are Available To Hear On Last.Fm Namely “Elegy” “Golem” And “Kyrie Eleison”. Thank You For Listening.
