Frogtoon Music - Song Info: The Story

"The Story” Is A More Personal And Slow-Tempo Single Compared To Radio-Friendly Singles Like “Maniac” From Conan’s Debut Album "Kid Krow". The Song Tells The Story Of His Life Before Getting Recognized As Explained By Himself During "The Comfort Crowd Tour" In Saint Louis "It’s One Of The Ones That Means More To Me. … I Like To Tell Stories And This Song Is Kind Of A Story About My Life When It Was Before All Of My Fame ." Since The Song Is So Personal Conan Has Expressed Hesitation In Releasing The Song And Putting It On His Album. He Wrote The Song Purely For Himself And Played It For His Friends Who Convinced Him To Release It. “The Story” Uses A First-Person And Third-Person Storytelling Technique To Narrate The Listeners Through Conan’s Childhood Which He Has Summed Up As “less Than Ideal” Back In October 29 2019 At The Comfort Crowd Tour. "The Album Is So Chaotic And It Can Be Pretty Sad And Dark At Times In The Middle. I Wanted To End On A More Hopeful Note. I Had A Pretty Rough Childhood A Lot Of It Was Just Really Unsafe. There Were Times As A Kid That I Wished So Badly That I Just Didn’t Exist Anymore. I Wanted So Badly For My Pain To Stop And I Wanted To Just Stop Existing. Every Single Time That I Would Hit Those Rock-Bottom Moments Something Would Just Tell Me To Keep Going. I Wanted To Write A Song Talking About All Those Moments In My Life And All The Things That Happened To Me And My Friends Growing Up Where We Thought That Life Was Just Going To Stop But With The Smallest Amount Of Courage—and With People Who Can Show You That They Love You—you Can Keep Going And It’s Never Really The End." - Conan Gray Via Apple Music Conan Has Explained The Song’s Inspiration In The Description Of Its Lyric Video "Wrote This Song About Me And My Friends' Childhoods. There Were Times Growing Up That I Thought Life Would Never Get Better. That Life Would Always Be That Painful. But I Promise It’s Never The End Of The Story."

Gray Told People That The Album Was Inspired By His "pretty Rough" Childhood In Texas Explaining "When You're Young It's Really Hard To Imagine Life Not Always Being Hard. I Lived In A Really Unsafe Household And Life Just Wasn't Very Good For Me. And So As A Kid I Was Just Like There's No Way That I'm Gonna Make It There's No Way That I'm Going To Survive Or There's No Way That There's Going To Be Anything More To My Life Than Just Dealing With Pain." Gray Told Teen Vogue That Growing Up As A Child Of Mixed Race In Texas Affected Who He Is As A Person As He Felt That "he Didn't Really Belong Anywhere." He Told Clash "The Record Is A Study Of How I Perceive The World. I Talk A Lot About My Friends And People I've Met Touring Over The Past Year. It's Me. I'm Not The Coolest Person But The Album Is Me Accepting The Fact I'm Weird And I Don't Need To Be Anybody Else. It's Also A Chance To Encourage Others To Embrace Who They Are And Be Unapologetic About It."
