Arising Out Of The Relative Isolation Of Northern New York State Translucia Unveil Their Captivating Debut Album Ghostpheria June 8th 2000 On Innovative Toronto-Based Label Plan Eleven. The Group's Eponymous Debut Ep Released In August '98 On Cassette And Limited Edition CD 100 Numbered Copies Now Completely Sold Out! Introduced The Haunting Sounds Of Translucia To The World Through Four Lengthy Songs That Take The Listener On An Emotional Journey. While Certain To Be Tagged With Descriptives Such As "ethereal" "shoegazer" And "dreampop" Translucia Create A Music That Is A Direct Expression Of The Personalities Involved And Is An Exploration Of Different Musical Languages. Based In Rochester New York Translucia Have Been Molding Their Distinctive Sound Since October 1995. The Group Was Formed By Erick Scheid Ghostly Guitars Treatments Electronics And Cavalier Romagnolo Jet Stream Bass Electronics Inspired By The Heavenly Sounds Of Artists On Such Labels As 4AD And Projekt As Well As Ambient Experimental And Psychedelic Music - Anything Unusual And Expressive! The Duo Went Through Several Singers In Early Incarnations Of Translucia Before Meeting Up With Lisa Anne Grey. Lisa's Unusual Freestyle Vocals Perfectly Complemented The Unorthodox Instrumental Sounds Being Created By Erick And Tony And Her Addition To Translucia In December 1996 Solidified The Group's Lineup And Direction. Influenced By The Artistic Isolation Of Their Surroundings Rochester Isn't Exactly A Hotbed Of Innovative Music An Often Harsh Climate Particularly In Winter And A Desire To Create Music With A Strong Spiritual And Emotional Content The Trio Focused Inwards And The Results Are Very Dynamic And Beautiful With A Melancholy Undercurrent. Translucia Wrote The Four Songs On Their Debut Cassette In Early '97 And Recorded Them In A Mere One Week. Originally Intended As A Demo Distributed In Limited Quantities By The Band During The Summer And Fall Of '97 Translucia's Tape Was Ecstatically Received By Canada's Plan Eleven Label. The Group Joined The Label's Eclectic Roster In February Of '98 Effectively Becoming Plan Eleven's First American Signing. The Four Song Ep Became Translucia's First Release On The Label Repackaged And Issued On Limited-Edition CD As Well A Perfect Introduction To The Group's Music. Translucia's Debut Ep Reveals A Group That Are Eager To Explore Musically And Who Are Not Bound By Musical Trends And Fashion But Rather Focus On Pure Expression. With Evocative Song Titles Such As "Breathing Slightly" "Indra's Web" "WitherLily" And "Dark Embrace" Indicating At Some Of The Moods And Mystery Within The Ep Captures A Wide Range Of Sounds And Emotions For The Listener To Be Absorbed By. Following The Release Of The Translucia Ep The Group Performed Numerous Live Shows In Northern New York State As Well As In Toronto And Ottawa Exposing Their Music To New Audiences. In The Spring Of '99 Translucia Began Recording Their Debut Full-Length Album At Audiolab Recording Studio In Toronto With Engineer Chris Hegge Ariel Chicklet An April March . The Album Entitled Ghostpheria Captures The Emotional Intensity Of Translucia's Live Shows And Includes Material That The Group Has Been Developing Over The Past Two Years As Well As An 18-Minute Reworking Of The Song "Dark Embrace." Ghostpheria Presents A More In-Depth Cross-Section Of Translucia's Varying Musical Approaches Exploring Sounds Ranging From Dark Ambient To Spiralling Haunting Ethereal Exotica. Ghostpheria Is Officially Released On June 8th 2000 And Translucia Will Be Performing As Part Of Plan Eleven's Dark Nights Tour During June And July In Support Of The CD.
