Kristin Rule Was Born In Stockholm Sweden In 1976. Shortly After Her Birth Her Family Returned To Australia Their Country Of Origin. She Grew Up In Melbourne And Began Playing The Cello At Age Twelve And Later Took Up The Saxophone At Age Fourteen. Kristin Completed Her Bachelor Of Music Majoring In Composition At The Victorian College Of The Arts In 2000. During Her Studies She Received The Peers Coetmore Scholarship For Cellists In 1997 And She Won The Quip Quip Composition Commission In 2000. During Her Time At V.C.A She Studied Cello Under Nelson Cooke For One Year And Composition Under David Joseph And Mark Pollard. The Final Year Of Her Degree Was Completed During A Nine Month Stay In Paris Where She Studied Composition Under Eugene Kurtz. The Composition Stream At The V.C.A Gave Students Many Opportunities To Compose Music For Film Dance Art And Theatre. Kristin Composed Music For Several Short Student Films During Her Studies One Of Which Has Been Shown Around The World Including The Cannes Film Festival In France. Her Piece ‘Rain’ For Solo Cello Was Performed At The Port Fairy Music Festival And Later Broadcast On ABC FM In Her Final Year Of Study. In 2002 She Went To Canberra And Furthered Her Compositional Studies Under Larry Sitsky And Jim Cotter.
