Marlui Miranda's Family Has Always Had A Relationship Of Pleasure With Music. Her Mother Without Ever Having Studied Or Even Played The Guitar Was The One Who First Tuned The Instrument That Marlui Had Received. At This Time The Family Still Lived In Fortaleza Where Marlui Was Born In 1949. When She Was 5 Years Old They Moved To Rio De Janeiro From Where Her Father An Engineer Decided To Take On The Challenge Of Helping To Build Brasília. It Was 1959. Marlui Began Studying Guitar In High School Amidst The Cultural Effervescence. Already At The Faculty Of Architecture She Began Attending Meetings That Brought Names Like Jacob Do Bandolim And Victor Assis Brasil To Brasília. Instrumental Music Awakened Marlui's Taste For Composition. The Singing Was Hidden By Shyness. Despite This In 68 She Won 1st Prize As A Performer And Composer At The Student Festival Of The University Of Brasília. Marlui Left University And Went To Rio Willing To Make A Living From Music. She Started Singing With Egberto Gismonti And Through Him She Met Taiguara With Whom She Traveled Throughout Brazil Performing As Guitarist In The Group That Accompanied Him. In The Mid-70s Marlui Began Studying Classical Guitar With Jodacil Damasceno And Turíbio Santos. She Started To Sing And Play The Guitar With Jards Macalé And Had A Song Of Hers "Airecillos" Recorded By Ney Matogrosso On The LP "Bandido". Marlui Also Organized Together With The Poet Xico Chaves The Project "Circuito Aberto De MPB" Held At Teatro Gil Vicente Rio De Janeiro And Brought Together New Artists Who Tried To Overcome Those Difficult Times Of Suffocation And Censorship In The 70s. After Many Shows Like This A Great Opportunity Arose Marlui Was Invited By Her Friend Egberto To Participate In His Group Academia De Danças. There Were More Than Two Years Of Tours Around Brazil In Presentations Where Marlui Sang And Played The Guitar Percussion And Cavaquinho. In 78 She Made Her First Trip To Rondônia And In 79 She Released Her First LP "Olho D'água" On The Continental Record Label. Recorded And Mixed In Just One Week The LP Was Greeted With Great Enthusiasm By Critics. The Following Year Was A Marathon Of Shows Across Brazil And A Desire To Deepen The Knowledge Of Indigenous Music A Need For Research And Reflection. In 81 In The Company Of His Companion Photographer Marcos Santilli Marlui Set Out On A Six-Month Trip Along The Rivers Guaporé Mamoré Pacaás Novos And Many Others All In Rondônia In Careful Research And Documentation Of The Habits And Music Of Indigenous Peoples. And Rubber Tappers Establishing An Objective Relationship With The Nature Of The Place. Observing Man's Relationship With That Environment Marlui Learned Firsthand To Relate Local Phenomena As Part Of A Whole And Also Began To Feel The Need To Preserve The Musical Repertoire Of That People. Back In São Paulo Where She Had Already Lived Since '78 Marlui Prepared Recorded And Finally Released Her Second LP "Revivência" In '83. Now Independent With Her Own Producer "Memória Discos E Edições" "Revivência" Was The First Result Of Marlui's Contact With A Brazil Generally Forgotten And Left To Its Own Devices. The Second Result Of Marlui And Marcos Santilli's Wanderings Was The Production Of The LP "Paiter Merewá" With Songs Written And Sung By The Suruís Indians From Rondônia. This LP Was Released In 85 And Before That Marlui Was Involved In Composing The Soundtracks For The Films "Jarí" By Jorge Bodanszki And "Povo Da Lua Povo De Sangue" By Cláudio Andujar. At The End Of 85 Marlui Entered The Studio To Record "Rio Acima" An LP That Features Songs That Take Us Once Again To A Vast And Unknown Country Called Brazil. Marlui Won A Grant From The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation To Continue Developing His Project To Recreate Indigenous Music From The Brazilian Amazon. Before Being A Work Commitment It Is About The Certainty Of An Extension Of Pleasure And Joy. After All The Only Commitment Of Marlui Miranda's Music Is To Quality.
