Ryan Tanaka Was Born And Raised In Aiea Hawaii In 1981. Influenced By The Multi-Cultural Environment Of The Islands Most Of His Music Can Be Labeled As Being Poly-Stylistic Or Eclectic. His Interests Lie In Music's Functionality As A Language -- How Communicative Boundaries Transcend And Synthesize Through Means Of Interaction. His Ideas Are Drawn From Linguistic Theory Taken From The Analytical And Pragmatist Philosophical Traditions. Ryan's Music Has Been Performed By Ensembles Such As The New Century Players California EAR Unit And The Formalist Quartet. He Holds A Bachelors In The Arts In Composition/Theory From The University Of Illinois Urbana-Champaign And A Masters In Fine Arts In Composition/Performance French Horn From The California Institute Of The Arts. Ryan Also Performs With The A-Tribute Ensemble An Improv Group That Performs Within A Wide Variety Of Idioms Ranging From Classical Jazz World Folk And Contemporary Musical Styles. He Is Currently Working On Developing A Pedagogical Method In Developing Skills In The The Area Of Improvisation Particularly Within Classical And Non-Idiomatic Free Styles.
