Pocket Orchestra Was An American Avant-Garde Progressive Band That Existed From The Late 70s Into The Mid 80s Playing An Extrememly Complex Mixture Of Chamber Music Rock And Improvisational Music. The Core Of The Band Was Guitarist Tim Parr Drummer Bob Stearman Bassist Tim Lyons Keyboardist Craig Bork Cellist Bill Johnston Reed Player Joe Halajian Joined Later. They Were Often Joined By Others Playing Various Other Instruments. After Starting In Phoenix Arizona The Band Relocated To Olympia Washington Where Johnston Had Access To A Recording Studio And Later Also Spent Time In San Francisco California. Two Sets Of Recordings By The Band Have Recently Seen Legitimate Release After Circulating Unofficially For Years Among Collectors. The "Knēbnagäuje Tape" Was Recorded In Olympia In 1978 And 1979 When The Band Was Going By That Name. The "Pocket Orchestra Tape" Was Recorded In San Francisco In 1983 After The Band Had Settled On That More Pronounceable And Descriptive Name. Both Are Collected On The MIO CD Called Knēbnagäuje Released In 2005. Not Long After The San Francisco Recordings The Band Split Up. Tim Parr Died In A Car Accident In 1988 Tim Lyons Died Accidentally In 1998.
