The Rocketz Started In The Small Living Room Of Former “Down By Law” And “Pearl Harbor” Bassist John Dimambro In 2003. He Approached Tony About Giving Him Upright Bass Lessons. It Was During Those Lessons That The First Of The Rocketz Songs Were Written. Tony Approached John About Starting The Band And Also Approached Former “Up Syndrome” Drummer Andrew Martinez Who Immediately Came Aboard. Unfortunately Or Fortunately As The Case May Be John Was Unable To Commit Due To Another Project Coming Down The Road. So Tony Asked Tony Macias Another Former Student To Play Some Shows. He Jumped On The Ship And Away They Went. John Still Stays Involved Stepping In When Tony’s Other Band “Dawn Shipley And The Sharpshooters” Is Booked For Shows. Tony Macias Now Plays With Dawn Primarily Don Pony Boy Fraser Takes Over The Reigns As The King Bass Slapper.While He Sat In On Some Shows Earlier History Will Record His First Show As Number One On FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH Of May 2005 The Latest And Greatest....Pony Boy Had To Take A Leave To Handle Some Business. So Big T-Mac Tony Macias Is Back In And Filling In As A Back Up Is Dan-E Of Gamblers Mark...Another Bass Student Of Tony Slash. Band Members Tony "Slash" Red-Horse Guitar Lead Vocals Pony Boy Up-Right Bass Backing Vocals And Andrew Martinez Drums Backing Vocals Come From Varied Musical Backgrounds. They All Have Extensive Music Resumes And Have Played With A Multitude Of Previous Bands Before Teaming Up To Form The Rocketz In December Of 2003. While Their Music Is Often Classified As “Psychobilly ” The Rocketz Appeal To A Much Wider Demographic Than Just Fans Of The Psychobilly Scene. “We Describe Our Sound As Psychobilly But We Also Pull From A Wider Influence Of Genres ” The Band Says. Their Remarkable Style Blends Rockabilly Garage Rock And Mainstream Punk Along With Psychobilly To Create A Sound That Transcends Traditional Categorizations. The Rocketz Played Their First Show On March 27 2004. Although The Band Had Not Yet Released An Album The Popularity Of Their Live Shows Led To An Impressive 54 Performances In 2004 Alone! They Regularly Play At Popular Southern California Venues Including The Key Club The Knitting Factory And The Doll Hut. The Rocketz Plan To Continue Playing Locally Until The Opportunity For A Full-Blown Tour Arises!!
