Katie Herzig Is A Singer And Grammy Award Nominated Songwriter From Nashville Tennessee. Biography Early Life Katie Herzig Was Born In California To A Musical Family. When She Was One Year Old Her Family Moved To Fort Collins Colorado Where She Attended Rocky Mountain High School. In Her Senior Year Of High School Herzig Received An Acoustic Guitar From Her Father Which Prompted Her To Begin Playing The Instrument. She Attended The University Of Colorado At Boulder Where She Majored In Journalism With Emphasis In Broadcast Production. In 2000 She Graduated With A Bachelor's Degree In Journalism. Early Career While Attending The University Of Colorado Herzig Formed The Band Newcomers Home With Tim And Laurie Thornton And Andrew Jed In The Summer Of 1997. Newcomers Home's Music Was Primarily Influenced By Bluegrass And Folk Music However Over Time The Band's Work Became More Influenced By Pop Music. Although Initially Herzig Suffered From Stage Fright And Confined Herself To Singing Backing Vocals And Playing The Drums For The Band She Eventually Began To Play The Guitar And Became A Lead Singer. The Band Broke Up In 2006 Leaving Herzig Free To Fully Pursue Her Solo Career. Solo Career In 2004 Herzig Released Her First Solo Album Watch Them Fall. The Title Track Was Featured On The WB Television Show Smallville. Another Song "Say Goodbye" Appeared In The 2007 Film X's & O's. In 2006 She Released A Second Solo Album Weightless Which She Recorded Using Pro Tools And Instruments That She Borrowed From Friends. She Co-Wrote One Track From The Album With Kim Richey "Jack And Jill". Two Tracks From The Album "Fool's Gold" And "Sweeter Than This" Were Featured On Grey's Anatomy. Her Song "Where The Road Meets The Sun" Was Featured On The Season 5 Finale Of Grey's Anatomy. After The Release Of Weightless Herzig Moved To Nashville Tennessee To Further Pursue Her Solo Career. She Then Toured With The Fray And As A Member Of The Paste Songwriters Tour. On May 18 2008 Herzig Released A New Album Apple Tree Which Is So Named Because The Title Is Mentioned In Three Different Songs On The Album. She Has Since Appeared On The KCRW Radio Program Morning Becomes Eclectic And Joined American Songwriter Magazine's Ten Out Of Tenn Tour. On September 18 The Song "I Hurt Too" From Apple Tree Was Featured On The Police Procedural Television Drama Bones. She Also Appeared In The 2008 Independent Documentary Film A Nashville State Of Mind. Awards Herzig Co-Wrote The Song "Heaven's My Home" With Ruby Amanfu Which Was Performed By The Duhks And Nominated For A 2007 Grammy Award For Best Country Performance. The Song Performed By Sam & Ruby Also Appeared In The 2008 Film The Secret Life Of Bees. Herzig Was A Finalist At The 2004 Planet Bluegrass Folk Festival Songwriting Competition.
