Guitarist /Jazz / R&Blues / Soul/ Funk/ Blues/Singer/Song Writer From Palm Springs California USA/ Middletown Ohio United States Of America. I Was Born In Middletown Ohio U.S.A. A Small Steel Town Of 50 To 70 000 People Located Twenty Five Miles From Dayton And Twenty Five From Cincinnati Ohio. When I Was About Six Or Seven Years Of Age I Watched "American Bandstand" With My Uncle Becoming Fascinated After Seeing 'Chuck Berry' 'Little Richard' 'James Brown' 'Jackie Wilson And Others.I Had Enjoyed Getting Model Electric Trains For Xmas Until Then And Soon Started Writing Song Poems In The 5th Grade Using Others Melodies To Sing Along With His Lyrics I Moved To Newnan Georgia Where My Fathers From I Made And Met A Friend Who Taught Me Part Of A Popular Blues Song Called 'Honky Tonk' After Moving Back To Ohio I Wanted A Guitar Instead On A Train My First Guitar Was Made Of Cardboard Plastic And Wood It Was Just A Toy So I Lost Interest. I Was Surrounded By Musical Family My Mothers Side Of The Family Were The Singers And Musicians. My Mother Sang In The Gospel Chorus And Played Piano/organ Likewise For My Aunts Who Sang In Church And Played Piano And Organ His Uncles Who Played Sax Trumpet And Trombone And Also Sang In Church They Played Instruments In School And The Military. My Oldest Sister Played Violin And My Little Brother Started Out Sax But They Didn't Continue Playing. My Family Moved To Dayton A Much Larger City Where There Were Many Musicians Bands And Groups Of Gospel R&B And Funk Artist Places To Learn And Perform Basically A Good Night Life For Entertainment And Party Goers At The Time. At Twelve Living In Dayton I Again Became Interested In Guitar Where I Had Become More Serious. Having Friends With Family Members Recording Gospel It Got My Juices Flowing.I Think It Was A Natural To Become A Musician/entertainer. I Had A Few Lessons At Twelve And Asked Other Guitarist To Show Me Things On The Guitar. I Also Learned Things From Pianist Organist Drummers And Sax Players Those Different Feels Riffs And Licks Showed Me Many Other Colors. Some Of My First Gigs Were Played At Churches For Pastors Who Wanted To Hire Him For The Sunday Services. After Seeing Gospel Groups Perform With Bass Guitar And Drums I Became Hooked. Once I Started Getting My Basic Chords And Rhythms Together I Started Attracting Attention From Gospel Groups And Other Churches To Play For Them On Saturdays And Sundays Most Of The Time They'll Take Up A Collection For Me. I Started Listening To Other Music Like R&b Soul Jazz Blues And Funk And Put Together A Band With Friends Called The 'Ohio Twisters' We Performed Together Until I Went Into The Army. I Played In Bands And Started Getting More Offers From My Popularity Around Town. A Band Had Come To Town From Macon Ga. To Visit There Family In Lima And Stopped Through Dayton Looking For A Guitarist For Their Band Which Was Called 'Frank Cole And The Night Rockers Who I Learned Was Being Booked By 'Otis Redding's Manager -Phil Walden Of Macon Georgia. I Left Home During The Thanksgiving And Xmas Holidays To Travel And Perform With Them To Muncie Indiana Lima Ohio And On To Macon For A Few Months. After Returning Back Home In Dayton I Started Touring The Midwest With Gospel Groups And Bands To Cities Like Louisville Pittsburgh Cleveland Columbus Cincinnati Chicago Atlanta And Memphis Just To List A Few. I Worked With Another Local Bandleader Called 'Big Jay Bush' And 'The House Rockers' And That Was Probably More Like First Real Professional Gig Before Band Leader Frank Cole And The Night Rockers'.
