Havana-Born Bandleader Composer-Arranger Flautist And Saxophonist Filiberto Rico Performed And Recorded With House Bands In Copenhagen And Paris In The Late 1920s Including Orquesta Típica Cubana Led By The Legendary Moisés Simón. Rico Then Formed His Own Creole Band Recording From 1930 Until War Forced Him To Abandon Paris In 1941. Returning In 1946 He Became A Mainstay Of The Postwar Café Scene Of Paris And The Côte D'Azur. While Rico Employed Mostly Cuban Players He Recognized The Commercial Value Of Recruiting Occasional French And Spanish Artists To Broaden His Appeal Particularly A Succession Of French Female Vocalists Who Gave His Band A Unique Sound.
