Malang Jobateh (sometimes spelled as "Jobarteh") is a Gambian-Senegalese musician who plays the kora, a long neck lute harp used extensively in West Africa. Jobateh was born into a family of traditional Gambian musicians and historians that “extends back nearly 1,000 years,” he says. Jobateh is often spotted playing music at subway stations in New York City.
