En 2001 Cambió De Jay Dee A J Dilla Y Llegó Welcome To Detroit Con El Sello BBE Un Disco Producido Íntegramente Por Él Y Que Mostró Al Mundo A Algunos De Los Máximos Talentos Del Underground De Su Ciudad. Dos Años Después Se Trasladó Desde Detroit A Los Angeles Se Unió Al Sello Stones Throw Y Creó Jaylib Con Madlib. El Grupo Publicó Champion Sound Disco Que Fue Recibido Con Críticas Entusiastas.
