I Cantori Gregoriani Are A Male Voice Group Which Exclusively Dedicates Itself To The Study And The Spread Of Gregorian Chant. Consisting Entirely Of Specialists The Ensemble Bases Its Own Performances On The Research Of Semiology That Is The Study Of Antique Manuscripts Dating From The Xth –X1th Centuries. The Performances Of The Group Are Aimed At Transmitting Through The Actual Instruments Of The Semiology The Expressive Force Of Gregorian Chant I.E. The Correct Musical Representation Of The Ancient Exegetic Tradition Of The Sacred Texts.
The Founder And Director Of The Group Is Fulvio Rampi Professor In Gregorian Chant At The School Of Luigi Agustoni Teacher In Pre-Polyphony At The Conservatorium In Turin And Chapel Master Of The Cathedral Of Cremona. I Cantori Gregoriani Have Performed Extensively. They Can Proudly Say They Have Performed In Italy And Abroad Spain Portugal Switzerland Austria Germany Poland Belgium Slovenia Lebanon Brazil For Important Cultural And Musical Associations. From 1995 To 1998 The Group Carried Out Four Tours Of Japan With Concerts Being Held In The Main Cities Tokyo Kyoto Osaka Hiroshima Kumamoto Nagano Yokohama . In 1996 It Took Part As The Only Gregorian Chant Group At The Orthodox Music Festival With A Concert In The Main Hall Of The “Tchaikovsky” Conservatorium In Moscow Russia . In 2002 The Group Was Invited To Hold Two Concerts On The Occasion Of The Prestigious "Festival Of Two Worlds" In Spoleto And In El 2003 It Took Part In The Monteverdi Festival In Cremona And The "Ravenna Festival" With A Performance Given In The S.Vitale Basilica.
They Have Also Made Many Recordings On Important Italian And Foreign Record Labels Rusty Records PDU-EMI JVC Japan Paoline Sarx Records ARCANA-WDR . The Group Have Also Made Recordings For The Swiss Radio Station Suisse Romande For The German Radio Station WDR For The Austrian TV Channel ORF And For The Japanese TV Channel NHK.
As Evidence Of Their Attention And Active Participation In The Lively Historic Phase In The Recovery Of Gregorian Chant In 1993 The Association Gave Birth To The Specialist Magazine “Note Gregoriane”.
In Recent Years I Cantori Gregoriani Have Alongside Their Artistic And Research Activities Begun The Promotion Of Their Educational Initiatives Run By Themselves. Since 1996 During The Summer Months A Course In Gregorian Chant Has Been Organized Called “Il Suono Della Parola” The Sound Of The Word At Which Prestigious Speakers Like Card. Carlo M. Martini Mons. Gianfranco Ravasi And The Prior Of The Monastic Community Of Bose Enzo Bianchi Have Been Present. The Course Is Attended By Musicians Liturgical Leaders Choir Directors And Singers From All Over Italy.
