Altan Is An Irish Folk And Traditional Music Group Which Formed In Gweedore County Donegal In 1987. The Popular Outfit Who Are Led By The World-Renowned Fiddler And Vocalist Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh Have Been Driven By Many Critically Acclaimed Albums And A Relentless Touring Schedule. They Emerged During The 1990s As One Of Ireland’s Premiere Traditional Musical Groups And Have Since Sold Millions Of Records Worldwide.

"Ten Thousand Miles" Also Known As "Fare Thee Well" And Sometimes As "The Turtle Dove" Is An English Folk Ballad In Which A Lover Bids Farewell Before Setting Off On A Journey. The First Published Version Of The Song Appeared In The Roxburghe Ballads Dated 1710 With The Title "The True Lover's Farewell". Some Of The Song's Lyrics Parallel Those Of Robert Burns' "A Red Red Rose" And Some Are Strikingly Similar To A Folk Song Titled "My Dear Mary Ann" That Dates From The Mid-19th Century. The Song Has Been Recorded As "Ten Thousand Miles" By Nic Jones As Well As By Joan Baez On Her 1960 Debut Album And Many Others.
